Apex Clubs of Penang & Murraylands

On Friday night April 12th the Apex Club of Murraylands held a social meeting at my home. It would be a meeting with a difference. We had 3 very special guests from the Apex Club of Penang. Edward and Suan Mai and Lifer Stephen Chinnaiah.
For dinner we had a traditional style Aussie BBQ. Beef sausages, chicken shaslix and steak followed by pavlova and chocolate cheesecake for dessert. The BBQ was expertly cooked by Edward. You cannot keep Edward away from the BBQ which I don’t mind as I can then drink more beer!!
After dinner came the event that we had all gathered together for. The signing of the Twinning MOU between our two clubs. Edward represented Penang and President Caroline Thomas and Vice President Michelle Chambers represented Murraylands. Mementos were also exchanged with Murraylands receiving a beautiful print of Penang and our gift was a picture of a paddlesteamer on the River Murray. It was a very proud moment for me as since my first visit to Penang in 2006 I feel that I have become great friends with the Penang Apexians. Whenever Chris & I have visited Penang we have always been looked after very well. The twinning will also hopefully allow my younger club members the opportunity to expand their horizons and make friends.
The next formality was the presentation of a $500 cheque to the Apex Club of Penang for a donation for the Apex 850 bike ride.
It was a great night as my fellow club members had the chance to talk with the Penang Apexians.
The Sunday following the social meeting the Apex Club of Murraylands held their inaugural Walk for Depression. We had 64 participants walk from Palmer to Mannum. A distance of 17 kilometres. I had volunteered to walk last so I could make sure that no one was in trouble. I also thought that it would suit Edward as I had my suspicions as to how fit he was. It was a successful event for our first try. Only 6 people didn’t make the distance. Much to my surprise Edward completed the journey although he did seem to be having trouble getting in and out of the car over the next couple of days!!
