Greetings From Apexian John Richards, (NRM)

Kong Hee Fat Choi

To all our Malaysian Chinese Friends and Family,
Cathy and myself wish you all a very prosperous Year of the Ox.
Could you please pass on to our other friends in Malaysia that we do not have an email for (Lim Chin Chai and others).
I have attached our newsletter for you. One standout is that Cathy and myself are going to be Grandparents! Maree is due in late July and early August.
Have a great New Year
John Richards

Hello all our Malaysian Friends. Another year, another mixed and emotional time.

Cathy & John. We started our Year on a sad note, John’s brother-in-law Brian (Tarz), husband of Pat, passed away in February. In early May, John’s eldest sister, Eileen also passed away. Both funerals were both emotional and sad. A large gathering attended both funerals in Broken Hill to celebrate Tarz and Eileen’s life. John and Cathy went overseas again! They attended the 50th Anniversary of the RAAF taking over the Air Base in Butterworth, Malaysia in 1958. It was a great occasion for all who attended (700). Whilst there, they caught up with many of their Malaysian friends. Their friends in Malaysia were very generous with their time. They are all true friends indeed. Whilst in South East Asia, John and Cathy went to Cambodia. Spent most of the time in Seam Reap, Ankor Wat country. They had a great time and met many new friends (seems to be a habit with them). John and Cathy also went to Airlie Beach in QLD in August to attend a 2 Squadron RAAF reunion. Ken Thakerary and his partner Rhonda married whilst at Airlie Beach. The wedding and reception was fantastic. Whilst there, one of John’s and 2 Squadron friend John Dunne passed away in Cairns. John and several members of the Squadron diverted to Cairns to attend the funeral, leaving Cathy to find her way back to Canberra. John always seems to be always on the move, Brisbane 8 times! John also went to Williamtown NSW to attend the 92nd Anniversary of 2 Squadron.

Darren: John & Cathy’s Son, Darren married his true love Emma Lloyd on the 8th of November. The wedding was held at Ashby, Yass, on the Yass River. The reception was at the Yass Golf Club. The families were sad that they could not invite all friends and families, however, the kids had to cut down on numbers. Some invitees did not RSVP, so there was a reserve list. 106 managed to attend. It was a very informal and great wedding and reception. Darren and Emma have settled down to married life. They have addition to the family, a CAT! Got you there huh! Darren and Emma are happy and well. They had their honeymoon in Tasmania, they loved it.

Maree: Maree & Ben have carried more improvements to our old house. They are doing great improvements. Maree has finished her CPA and is now a qualified CPA. She has done very well. They are still enjoying married life together. Maree & Ben Gave John and Cathy some good news, Maree is pregnant and is due in late July early August. John seems to think he is two young to be a grandfather(he is only joking!)

Nicole: Nicole is still enjoying life. Nicole & Brett are still at “ASHBY”. They are still hoping to build a house within the next 6 months on the land Brett purchased some time ago. Nicole has also gone into business. She has opened a Beauty Salon in partnership with a local hairdresser in the main street of Yass. The business started very slowly, however, it is improving. Nicole has another cat, Bushie. It has not replaced Bobby (it never will!) but she spoils it to bits. Nicole and Brett have just returned from Noosa QLD and are back to normality

That’s it. Have a wonderful Chinese New Year (Kong Hee Fat Choi).

Love, John, Cathy and Family
