Apex Week 2008 Projects:-

* Concrete walls at Charis Home is up & fully painted, a handing over

ceremony by YB Phee Boon Poh is being planned.

*Bursary Presentation is on 22/4/08, 11 a.m. at SMK Zainal Abidin,

RM1,500/= to be disbursed.

Discussion on other Projects/Matters:-

* Victor Corbett will co-ordinate the Traffic School Project

* Awaiting approval of Kolej PTPL, Pg to set up Junior Apex Club

* Victor is planning a Taiping trip to get Apexians to set up Taiping Club.

* Apex Pg is participating in the Charity Food Fair at Mt Miriam Hospital on

27/4/08, Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. All proceeds to the Hospital.

*Nominations for Office Bearers 2008/2009 at next meeting.

* Mr Gan, Headmaster of SMK Zainal Abidin agrees to allow his students

to be involved in Apex activities, for caring society awareness.

General: Members wish Terrie Loo for her birthday on 24/4/08

23 Mar ’08 – Blood Donation Drive at Tesco Hypermarket, Penang

25th to 27th Mar ‘08 – Painting surrounding concrete fence at Charis Home

Discussion on future Projects:-

*Victor Corbett will co-ordinate the Traffic School Project

*Edward Mai & Lifer Andrew Ong to discuss with Kolej PTPL on setting

up a Junior Apex Club.

*Victor is planning a trip to Ipoh to encourage past Apexians to set up a

Taiping Club.

Outcome of Planned Projects:

*71 pints of blood was collected at the Blood Donation Campaign on 23/3/08.

Syabas to Apex Clubs in Malaysia as a total of 467 pints were collected.

*Discussion with Kolej PTPL drew a favorable initial response. Awaiting

further news from the Kolej as the Principal will formally inform Apex Pg.

*Apex Pg will have a ceremony to hand over the concrete wall to Charis

Home.

For a good laugh:-

Exchange Students From Australia

Apex Club of Penang had the privilege of hosting two exchange students from Australia. Anne Vella hails from Childers in Queensland and Elizabeth Keogh from Mackay.
Anne is 18years old and is on the verge of joining James cook University in Townsville and hopes to study pharmacy. She is the second child in her family of nine and her father is a farmer whilst her mother is a special education teacher . Elizabeth, on the other hand is also of the same age as Anne and has joined the University of Queensland where she will take up civil engineering. She is the eldest daughter of a businessman who imports timber and her mother is a book-keeper and a secretary. She has two younger brothers who are still in school.
The two visitors were hosted by Apexian Edward Mai. They were taken to an educational tour to one of the Semi-Con factories in Bayan Lepas and also around to places such as the Snake Temple, Goddess of Mercy Temple and the beach at Batu Feringghi. They also had the opportunity to join in Apex activities organised by the Apex Club of Penang, such as packing goody bags for the Treasure Hunt around Penang Island, joining in the Treasure Hunt by becoming passengers in Apexian Terrie Loo's car and taking part in the special project at the Cheshire Home. When inquire about these projects, the response from the two visitors was "Excellent"

Apex Club celebrates golden anniversary

THE Apex Club of Malaysia will hold its national convention in Penang from Aug 10 to Aug 12.

The event, which is organised by Apex Club of Penang in conjunction with the club’s golden anniversary, will be held at G Hotel in Gurney Drive.

Penang Public Works, Utilities and Transportation Committee chairman Datuk Koay Kar Huah, who is Apex Club of Penang advisor, said the golden anniversary dinner would be held at the hotel on Aug 11.

“There will be 50 tables with each priced at RM600,” he told a recent press conference.

Those interested in attending the dinner should contact 04-2629 431/2.

At the press conference, Koay handed some contributions on be-half of the club to the Children’s Protection Society Penang and SRJK (T) Ladang Mayfield, Prai. The society received a facsimile machine and some sports equipment while the school received funds to buy three tables and a cupboard.

Also present was Apex Club of Penang president Edward Mai.
