APEX 850 (Penang to Singapore)
Twenty cyclists from
Malaysia and Singapore are participating in the upcoming Apex 850; a cycling
charity fund raising to be held from 22nd
to 25th January 2013. From Malaysia Penang, the cyclists will
ride down to Teluk Intan, Port Dickson, Batu Pahat, ending at Apex Harmony
Lodge, located at Pasir Ris, east of Singapore, a total of 850 km.
Proceeds raised from this
inaugural Apex 850 will benefit needy students from Penang and the people with dementia in Singapore. Besides
making a difference to the lives of the disadvantaged, the organising committee
hopes to foster good will and comradeship among cyclists, supporters and
sponsors from the two countries involved in this event.
Here is more information about the charities that will benefit from this
event:
Launched in 2011, Apex
Penang Education Fund provides financial assistance, at tertiary level, to
deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds. While the fund is fully
managed by members of Apex Club of Malaysia (Penang), Sub-Committees are formed
to fundraise, select deserving candidates and fund disbursement. Apex Penang
Education Fund raises its own funds through donations and fund-raising projects
such as this upcoming Apex 850 Ride.
Apex Harmony
Lodge
Apex Harmony Lodge is a
purpose-built 210-bed home in
Singapore for people with dementia. With facilities for both residents and
day-care beneficiaries, the Lodge prides itself in providing affordable,
quality dementia care since 1999. Besides medical subvention funding from the
Singapore government, the Lodge relies on donations and fundraising activities to sustain its operation.
